Caltech and The Huntington Welcome Historian Susanna Throop as a CHHC Visitor
Susanna Throop, associate professor of history at Ursinus College, visits Caltech and The Huntington in April and May 2017 as part of the Violence and Order research module of the Caltech-Huntington Humanities Collaborations (CHHC). In her research, Throop is interested in the cultural history of Christian religious violence, the history of emotion, and interdisciplinary approaches to both textual and visual evidence. Her current scholarly projects include a chapter on crusading violence for the forthcoming Cambridge World History of Violence and a new study on the role of crucifixion in crusading culture in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. In recognition of her scholarship, Ursinus College awarded her the Laughlin Award for Professional Achievement in 2015.
